Catch Up and Moving Forward

Enjoyed a wonderful four days at an art retreat with friends at a Sandbridge beach house. While I didn't get as much "art" accomplished as I had intended, it was a marvelous time of rest and refreshment. Once I get the face and detailing done on my mermaid, I'll be sharing her here with you. Yes, I know, I've said before that I had intended to write more often... life happens. Since that last post, I've developed a pinterest addiction and have been opening my mind to all forms of beauty. If you're not familiar or not addicted enough, here is the link to my boards - feel free to view, follow or repin as you will. This past year, I've been exploring many expressions of creation. I've rekindled my passion for fiber arts, both natural like sheep to shawl as well as paper and a host of media and repurposed creations. No, I haven't done much with photographing this year's events or creations, but I think that will be my 2013 focus. 2013 - signed up for the Life Book 2013 project at Willowing. Will do my utmost to participate. It sounds like it was custom designed for me, right here, right now. Each month there will be many talented artists who will be leading us on new paths of exploration and growth. As for my personal life, all is well. My daughters are all thriving in their endeavors. Husband content with his life and hobbies. I am totally plugged in with our local artists and this past weekend have really gotten to know a few of them exceptionally well. The best part of that - I've also grown to be more open with them and they with me and hopefully we have come alongside each other for encouragement, support and even deeper friendship. Life is excellent once you find your "tribe" - the group of people who understand where you are, get you, and love you because or even in spite of that. Hoping you find joy and tribe...

Back once more

Enjoyed a lovely 4 day art retreat with some local artist friends. We had an amazingly relaxing time with lots of fun. Spent some time helping some of the ladies get into some of the online resources for our group and in general and decided to try again on updating my blog. If anything is oddly skewed or something, let me know so I can try to fix it. Have to quit typing since blogger ate my earlier attempt to post, but will see about adding in some recent works soon. Feel free to browse my latest pinterest addiction - that site is sure a time stealer, but I love it!

Fresh Inspiration So, it’s been a long time since I did an update. When I closed my little online store in May of 2010, I pretty much gave up the blog as well. This year has been a year of transformation and new perspectives for me. I’ve attended Art & Soul here in Virginia Beach, met and connected with many artists both local and far away, and gotten back on the creativity track. Part of my process has been joining in with our local Tidewater Artist Guild. We have a wealth of talented and knowledgeable artists locally who share and inspire and they have let me be part of their wonderful community. At our recent “summer art camp” weekend, we had a planning session to discuss future plans and some of the group wants to get help with their blogs. Some of the members have active blogs and others are just starting out. As a slightly computer literate person with some blog experience, I finally am ready to re-purpose this blog and use it to share my evolving art and life passions. So, what to expect? Somewhat regular updates, pics of some of my works in progress or completed, this and that going on in my life, and a place to connect with other likeminded individuals. Guess that statement bears the question – what kind of mind do YOU have? Mine can be scattered. I like to think of myself as somewhat of a Renaissance woman – both with my figure – kindly referred to as voluptuous and my appetite for new knowledge. By day, I work at a local telecom company with commercial customers facilitating their service installations and changes. Each day has a host of new challenges, interactions and tasks to juggle and complete. Outside of the office, though, my unquenchable thirst for fresh inspiration. I’ve been a voracious reader all my life. With each new passion that catches my attention, I tend to do an immersion course of study either solo or attending classes to get down the bones. I love creating and have not been able to settle on just one medium although paper art has held a long time place in my life. What has caught my interest lately? Pinterest Natural fibers (wool, alpaca, etc.) Spinning fibers (currently learning drop spindle – dream of wheel in my future) Dyeing, felting and other extensions of fiber process Knitting (surprised to find out it isn’t that hard and I actually CAN do it) Junking – love poking around for vintage treasures and alterable items Altered art – all shapes and sizes Art journal Learning to paint and more advanced techniques Memory cherishing – aka scrapbooking Dabbling in jewelry and polymer clay Poetry – reading it and writing my own Zentangle Did I mention a bit of gardening? Well, that’s scratching the surface… like I said, voracious. Hope to make time this weekend to upload some of my recent art attempts to share with you all. Please feel free to comment or leave feedback – love to know I’m not sending my little thoughts alone into the void… Catch up with you all next time!
