Love Elsie

Do you? I'm waiting patiently for my next shipment of her recipe boxes in the store (scrapbook recipes, not food). Last batch sold out same day. I've got pre-orders in the works and am dying to receive and ship them.

What about her book 52 Scrapbooking Challenges? At this time, I'm not carrying books in the store, but I bought a copy for myself. I found it very fun - 52 challenges means that you could have a new challenge each week and find fresh inspiration for your albums. I love this concept. Sometime, I see a lot of similarity in my albums - I guess I do have a "style". But the pages I love the most are the ones that break out of my usual box and explode with something fresh.

So, Love Elsie? Post a comment and tell me yea or nay!

Dexter - Season 3

I was so glad to hear that Season 3 is on the books - September 28th.

Melody and I did a two day On Demand marathon and watched Season 1 then Season 2 episode after episode. I think serials are much more interesting in this format. Wish Crossing Jordan wasn't over and done - that's another I liked and missed. Also enjoyed John Doe.

Waiting for new episodes of Grey's Anatomy, House and Bones.

What shows do you love and follow?

Finance 100

Time for midterms. For me, this class is like going to the dentist - uncomfortable, but necessary. I was really happy I could still my brain this weekend long enough to read the text and come up with some semi cohesive answers... now to find out if I get it or not. If it was just text, I'd be fine, but add in the math element and my defenses go up. Ce la vie. Half way done... hurray!

Recovery and Sale

Spent the entire weekend doing homework and going through the mountain of catalogs my daughter and I collected at CHA. The variety of cool, new products is amazing. The only question is, which ones can I actually order in. I've developed a major case of jealousy for those stores with a large shopping budget.

Last night, before I went to sleep, I read through all the retailer magazines and info I had gotten then and assured myself a restless nights sleep by filling my head with facts, figures and ideas that all need to be sorted into their appropriate categories. Yikes - the joys of starting something new.

As part of that effort, I've added a short term sale on my store site - 15% off your order with coupon code RECOVERY. Since we've added in new Primas, cardstock and have other great stuff we'd like to see join your scrap room, it seems only sensible. Check it out. Gotta get off to the day job. Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Heidi Grace & Fiskars

One of the nicest people I met at CHA was Heidi Grace. Yes, I understand she's mainly there to promote her product line. Yes, I know the scissors they gave out are gifts from Fiskar. But I've got to tell you, this woman is just too sweet. Heidi autographed tags at the scissor giveaway and at a later event, even did drawings for the ladies. I wanted a drawing, but managed to get myself lost on the convention floor and forgot all about it. Heidi has the cutest chick paper out there as well as a great line of toher delicate designs. Heidi - if you should stumble across this post, thanks for being kind to a stranger and being so upbeat and friendly.

Typing into the Void --- Win a Prize

Blogging is such an interesting sport - it's rather like keeping an online journal of your thoughts and creations to share with others. Apparently, the secret others don't often think to comment and confirm your ramblings. I have been told this is normal. The weird thing for me as a new blogger is that if I didn't have google analytics working in the background, I'd never know anyone ever came to visit.

In an effort to reassure myself, I'll be doing a random drawing on Saturday for a prize from my store to someone who leaves a comment on this post. Pretend you've actually browsed my feeble efforts and make me feel better about this - pretty please? Hope to hear from someone, anyone.

Jean Chatzky - CHA Summer 2008

One of the fun things from CHA that I really enjoyed was meeting Jean Chatzky - she was the keynote speaker. I really enjoyed how friendly and personal she was - I felt like I was having a chat with a friend as she presented. Afterward, she signed books for anyone who wanted one... naturally, in my OCD way, I got one of each of her books.
Before her presentation, the event organizers set up a local food event for us - "A Taste of Rosemont". It was quite nice - samples from many of the great restaurants in that area. The only thing that might have made it better would be a larger space and some tables and seating. Juggling food and drink while walking in tight quarters can be quite the challenge, especially after a long day of brain stretching classes. Overall, though, the food was awesome. Wish my visit had been longer so I could have gone to more of the restaurants. The only real restaurant we had time to eat at at all was Giordanos. Ordered the traditional stuffed supreme pie - one slice was massive and totally satisfying. I guess the 3 of us didn't need a large pie after all - but that's how it is when you get greedy. We also ordered desserts to take back to the room - I had cannoli (yum), Melody tried tiramisu , and Marcie went traditional with cheesecake. Of course, it was a few hours later before we had any space to even indulge, but the desserts were also delicious.

CHA 2008

Back from CHA - only 16 hour drive each way and about $40 in tolls - YIKES - we don't even want to begin to talk about parking fees - $20/night for the hotel (Westin - boo) and $11 each day at the convention center.

Melody and I took a lot of classes on Thursday - tonight I'll do photos and share each one - they were great and we learned so very much. Ran into all kinds of friends - my friend Kim who had the booth next door at GASC; Theresa, Bow and the nice blonde lady who's name I'm totally forgetting; got to say hi to Heidi Swapp (even though I'm sure she doesn't remember me from her A Year to Remember class and Creative Escapes last September; Marcie Morgan and Megan G from my design team. And even more fun - all the new people I had a chance to speak with and learn from - the awesome manufacturers reps, other store owners, designers and such as we stood in line for giveaways or our turns at make and takes and more.

Since I have to get in to the office to my regular job this morning, I'm not going to really get into the good stuff yet, but check in later - I'll be offering a blog candy and sharing some photos and info you might actually enjoy. Thanks for stopping by.

The Spinning Never Ceases

Seems these past few months have been a whirlwind for me. I'm dancing as fast as I can. Been having vertigo issues but not letting them slow me down. Tonight, Melody and I am off to Chicago for CHA. We're looking forward to the classes, connections and overall good times. This will be my first time at the event and I'm really excited. Expect to see some cool samples from the classes we're in and new stuff in the store.

Challenges - do you enjoy them? Be sure to check out our messageboard at My design team has been having a ball with challenges and we're giving out a new prize each month. You've got to be in it to win it, though, so be sure to stop by - bring along any scrappy friends who'd like to participate. We love meeting new people.

Gotta get ready to hit the road. Will try to do some CHA updates on the blog as time permits.

The Neglectful Blogger

It's just stunning to me how quickly time passes. Seems just yesterday I was planning our booth at GASC and now I'm finalizing my classes for CHA! And of course, during this flash of time, I hadn't had the time to update or chat with you all. Finally, I have something to share that might make you smile - how about a sale?

In honor of Independence Day will be hosting a special 20% off all products sale! Just use the code LIBERTY when you check out! More merchandise has been arriving and why not celebrate with a bit of shopping? Sale ends Monday, July 7th, so don't wait too long to place your order.

I'm off work today for a four day weekend, so I hope to manage something creative to share with you all over this break. Drop me a comment - I'd love to hear from you so I don't feel so alone here typing to you all :)

Happy 4th of July!
